Layered Cakes
Single tier Cakes are measured by their diameter and are generally 2 layers thick for approx. a 4" tall cake, though sometimes height will vary a little depending on the density and type of cake you have.
If you want a slightly taller cake or love frosting these layers can be torted (Slicing each single layer into two or more thinner layers) and then frosting added between them.
Tiered Cakes
A multi-tier cake will consist of multiple layered cakes stacked on top of each other. Each tier will have a board underneath it and supports in the cake below to make sure it does not fall or crush the tier beneath it. These supports will need to be removed while you are cutting and serving (don't worry- they are easy to pull out).
To calculate servings you would just add the number of servings for each tier together.
Carved Cakes
Carved cakes are a little different when calculating the servings.
Please contact me and I will be happy to put together a quote for a proper sized cake for your event.
***Never smash someone's face or body into a cake***
These supports or other structural supports or decoration could cause injury or even death.
Serving & Cutting Guides
If you are serving your own cake you may be unsure of how to cut a cake to get the proper amount of servings, or even what the proper amount of servings should be.
Below is a guide on the best way to cut a cake to make sure everyone gets a serving and to help you decide what size best suites your party.
If you feel like there isn't enough or you wish to serve larger pieces, consider going up a size in diameter or maybe adding an extra layer for taller slices.
If you have lots of children at the party or guests that would prefer smaller pieces, consider cutting wedding size portions instead of party servings.
